Con la reciente celebración del XV Campeonato Europeo de Polo, organizado por la FIP, el Sowiniec Polo Club demostró una vez más su capacidad de organización y la calidad de sus instalaciones, consolidando a Polonia en el mapa internacional del deporte.

Conversamos con Mateusz Switalski, dueño del club, quien repasó cómo se vivió la experiencia desde adentro, la importancia del respaldo de sponsors, el crecimiento de la institución y los próximos pasos que la proyectan hacia el futuro.

¿Cómo fue la experiencia de organizar un campeonato europeo de esta magnitud?

Organizar el Europeo fue al mismo tiempo un enorme desafío y un gran honor. Reunir a ocho selecciones nacionales, casi 40 jugadores, más de 180 caballos, además de petiseros, oficiales y personal de apoyo, requirió meses de preparación y una coordinación muy minuciosa. Nos sentimos orgullosos de haber sido elegidos por la Federación Internacional de Polo (FIP) y agradecidos por la confianza depositada en nosotros para recibir un torneo tan prestigioso. Ver cómo cobraba vida en Sowiniec Polo Club y el nivel de juego que se mostró en la cancha hizo que todo el esfuerzo valiera la pena. Para nosotros no se trató solo de organizar una competencia, sino de generar una experiencia inolvidable para jugadores, equipos, sponsors y público, demostrando que Polonia está lista para albergar eventos de primer nivel mundial.

¿Cómo manejaron la logística de un evento tan grande?

La logística fue uno de los puntos más exigentes. Recibimos a ocho equipos nacionales con casi 40 jugadores y dimos alojamiento a más de 180 caballos, con todo el soporte veterinario necesario. Los equipos trajeron a sus propios petiseros y transporte, mientras que nuestro staff coordinó la infraestructura, la programación y los servicios en el predio durante los 10 días de competencia. Tanto Jakub Antczak, nuestro Estate Manager, como Facundo Cordeu, Polo Manager del club, hicieron un trabajo excepcional para que todo funcionara con estándares internacionales.

Como cofundador del lugar, ¿qué fue lo que más disfrutó de la organización?

Lo que más valoré fue la posibilidad de conectar con jugadores, equipos y organizaciones de gran nivel de toda Europa. Fue un privilegio recibirlos en Polonia y mostrar nuestro club en esta escala. Además, disfrutamos mucho el trabajo junto a la FIP, en especial con Alex Taylor y Pierro Dilier, quienes nos honraron con su presencia. Este campeonato nos permitió fortalecer vínculos, intercambiar ideas y celebrar juntos el polo. Fue muy gratificante ver nuestro predio convertirse en escenario de una competencia de clase mundial.

¿Cuál cree que fue el punto más fuerte de la organización y del evento?

El gran diferencial fueron la calidad excepcional de las canchas y la atención a cada detalle desde la perspectiva de los jugadores. Incluso con un clima desafiante, priorizamos siempre la seguridad de caballos y polistas, manteniendo el nivel competitivo en lo más alto. Cada aspecto —desde la preparación de los campos y las caballerizas hasta la programación y la hospitalidad— fue cuidadosamente planificado para que los equipos solo tuvieran que enfocarse en jugar y disfrutar del torneo al máximo.

¿Recibieron comentarios de los demás países?

Sí, recibimos muchísimos comentarios positivos de los equipos, aunque sabiendo lo amables que son, hubiera sido difícil que dijeran lo contrario (risas). Más allá de eso, varios jugadores y managers destacaron de verdad la calidad de las canchas, la organización y la hospitalidad. Escuchar eso de equipos con tanta experiencia fue uno de los aspectos más gratificantes de recibir el Europeo.

¿Cómo explican el crecimiento que ha tenido Sowiniec en los últimos años?

El crecimiento se debe a que nos propusimos aprender de los mejores. Como Sowiniec Polo Team hemos viajado y competido en todo el mundo, incorporando los más altos estándares de cada club y torneo que visitamos. Nuestra organización en Argentina también ha sido un activo fundamental, permitiéndonos traer las mejores prácticas desde el corazón del polo hasta Polonia. Invertimos fuertemente en infraestructura y trabajamos con referentes como Battro Polo Fields para ofrecer las mejores canchas de esta parte de Europa. Esa apuesta por la calidad, el detalle y la colaboración internacional es lo que nos ha convertido en un destino de referencia.

¿Qué papel cumplen sponsors como SOVO Development en ese crecimiento?

¿Cuáles son los próximos pasos del club?

Nuestro foco inmediato está en la temporada alta de Argentina, donde competiremos en distintos torneos para seguir elevando el nivel de nuestros jugadores. Al mismo tiempo, seguimos invirtiendo en la infraestructura de Sowiniec. Estamos probando un nuevo tipo de césped, similar al Tifton, que hasta ahora era casi imposible de implementar en climas como los de Inglaterra, Polonia o Alemania. Junto a Battro Polo Fields, estamos logrando ese avance. Con nuestro mantenimiento de primer nivel, esto nos permitirá tener no solo las mejores canchas de esta parte de Europa, sino de todo el continente, haciendo el juego más rápido y dinámico.

Mateusz Switalski and Sowiniec’s experience as host of the XV European Polo Championship

With the recent celebration of the XV European Polo Championship, organized by the FIP, Sowiniec Polo Club once again showcased its organizational capacity and the quality of its facilities, firmly placing Poland on the international polo map.

We spoke with Mateusz Switalski, owner of the club, who reflected on the experience from the inside, the crucial role of sponsors, the growth of the institution, and the next steps that will shape its future.

Experience at the European Championships. What was it like to organize such a large-scale event?

Organizing the European Championship was both a tremendous challenge and a great honor. Bringing together eight national teams, nearly 40 players, over 180 horses, plus grooms, officials, and support staff required months of preparation and meticulous coordination. We felt proud to be chosen by the Federation of International Polo (FIP) and grateful for their trust in us to host such a prestigious tournament. Seeing the championship come to life at Sowiniec Polo Club and witnessing the level of competition on the field made all the effort worthwhile. For us, it wasn’t just about staging a tournament but about creating a memorable experience for players, teams, sponsors, and fans, while showing that Poland is ready to host world-class polo events.

How did you handle the logistics of the championship, including horses, staff, and the overall scale of the event?

The logistics were one of the most demanding aspects. We hosted eight national teams with nearly 40 players and provided stabling for more than 180 horses, along with full veterinary support. Teams brought their own grooms and transport, while our staff coordinated all infrastructure, scheduling, and on-site services during the 10 days of competition. Both Jakub Antczak, our Estate Manager, and Facundo Cordeu, Polo Manager at the club, made an exceptional effort to ensure everything ran smoothly and met international standards.

As co-founder of the venue, what did you enjoy most about organizing it?

What I valued most was the opportunity to connect with outstanding players, teams, and organizations from across Europe. It was a privilege to welcome them to Poland and to showcase our club at this level. We also truly enjoyed working with the Federation of International Polo, especially Alex Taylor and Pierro Dilier, who honored us with their presence in Poland. Hosting such a prestigious event allowed us to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and celebrate polo together. It was incredibly rewarding to see our venue become a stage for world-class competition.

What do you think was the strongest point of the organization and the event?

The greatest strength was the exceptional quality of the fields and the attention we paid to every detail from a player’s perspective. Even with challenging weather, our priority was always the safety of both players and horses, while maintaining a world-class level of competition. Every element — from field preparation and stabling to scheduling and hospitality — was carefully thought through to create a seamless experience for the teams. This attention to detail is what allowed the players to focus entirely on their performance and enjoy the tournament at its highest level.

Did you receive any feedback from the other countries?

Yes, we received a lot of positive feedback from the teams — although, knowing how polite they are, it would have been hard for them to say otherwise (laughs). Joking aside, many players and managers genuinely praised the quality of the fields, the organization, and the warm hospitality. Hearing that from such experienced teams was one of the most rewarding aspects of hosting the championship.

Sowiniec has grown significantly in recent years. How do you explain that progress?

Our growth comes from a clear mission: to learn from the very best. As the Sowiniec Polo Team, we’ve traveled and competed all over the world, adopting the highest standards from every club and tournament we’ve visited. Our organization in Argentina has also been a tremendous asset, allowing us to bring best practices from the heart of polo back to Poland. We’ve invested heavily in infrastructure and expertise, working with top professionals such as Battro Polo Fields to provide the best playing surfaces in this part of Europe. This commitment to quality, detail, and international collaboration is what has established Sowiniec as a leading polo destination.

How important is the support of sponsors like SOVO Development?

What are the next steps for the club?

Our immediate focus is on the high season in Argentina, where we’ll be competing in several tournaments to further develop the skills of our club members. At the same time, we’re making significant investments in our infrastructure at Sowiniec. We are currently testing a new type of grass, similar to Tifton, which until now was nearly impossible to grow in climates like England, Poland, or Germany. Together with Battro Polo Fields, we are changing that. With our top-level maintenance, this will enable us to have not only the best fields in this part of Europe but across the entire continent, making the game even faster and more dynamic.
