El domingo 7 de julio, Los Lobos y Zug & Friends, jugaron la final del International Polo Ladies Cup, el gran destacado del polo femenino en Polo Park Zurich, comandado por Morgan Von Overbroek. Por cierto, no fue una edición más de este tradicional certamen, que este año celebró sus 25 años. (ENGLISH VERSION BELOW)
Las campeonas fueron Los Lobos, con with Kathrin-Ann Brandle, Katja Grausiler, Morgan Von Overbroek y Lucie Venot, que vencieron a Zug & Friends en una final muy buena y muy competitiva que las chicas disfrutaron y se divirtieron, en el ambiente más que agradable que propone el club suizo.
Así, Prensa Polo charló con algunas de las chicas, incluyendo a un par de campeonas, como Ann-Kathrin, Aline Haerry, Lucie Venot y Ursi Bettio, quienes nos dejaron sus impresiones sobre esta única y atractiva experiencia.
¿Dónde jugás y te organizás habitualmente para preparar este torneo?
Aline Haerry: Yo juego en Polo Club Zug, que no está lejos de Polo Park Zurich, y la verdad que disfrutamos mucho venir aquí a jugar. Por supuesto, y en lo que a mí respecta, mi pico de la temporada es la International Ladies Cup. En realidad, fue uno de los primeros torneos que jugué cuando empecé con el polo y desde entonces, trato de venir todos los años. Con nuestro equipo lo ganamos un par de veces.
Este año tuvimos algunos problemas para organizarnos, con lesiones, otra chica que se tuvo que bajar y el mal tiempo que obligó a postergar algunos torneos. Pero finalmente, pudimos armar un buen equipo y aunque sabíamos que no teníamos muchas chances, no quisimos perder la oportunidad de jugar el certamen.
Ursi Bettio: Generalmente juego en mi club local, Polo Club Zug, donde estuve entrenando en los últimos dos años. Esta vez, y debido al mal tiempo, hice más foco en practicar penales. Tuvimos mucha suerte de poder jugar. Además, jugamos prácticas con jugadores más experimentados, para estimular un ambiente competitivo. Y también trabajo mucho con mi coach, Facu, para desarrollar estrategias.
Ann Kathrin Brandle: Mi base está en el Polo Club Bern, que se encuentra a unos 15 minutos de mi casa.
¿Qué es lo que más te gustó de este torneo?
Ursi: Me gustó mucho el nivel de competencia, y la oportunidad de conocer y jugar contra chicas de otros clubs. El ambiente era muy agradable y cordial, todas éramos bienvenidas.
Aline: Aparte de la gran ubicación, canchas y una organización perfecta, lo que más me gustó es ver la pasión compartida de todas las chicas por los caballos y el deporte, juntarnos para jugar. En lo personal, lo que más disfruté fue que mi caballo Cheta ganó la manta del BPP. Estoy muy orgullosa de esta pequeña genia y muy agradecida a Facundo Guevara, que es quien me la vendió.
Ann Kathrin: Lo que más me gustó fue el espíritu deportivo y el juego limpio. El ambiente en el club es muy lindo, crearon algo maravilloso que me superó.
Lucie Venot: El torneo fue fantástico, en un ambiente muy buena onda. Una experiencia memorable, sin dudas.
¿Qué te pareció el nivel de juego y la organización?
Aline: La organización de Morgan fue impecable; ¡chapeau! Cada año consigue grandes sponsors con nuevas ideas para regalos que son muy buenos. Y además, pudimos jugar en un fin de semana lluvioso, lo cual te demuestra el gran estado de las canchas. Y por supuesto, disfrutamos muchos del almuerzo con tapas. ¡Gracias, Morgan por toda la dedicación y pasión que le ponés a este torneo!
Ursi: El nivel de juego fue super. Quedé impresionada por el talento y la fuerza de las jugadoras. Nos divertimos muchos en partidos muy limpios y casi sin faltas. Los organizadores hicieron un gran trabajo. Mi gran agradecimiento a Morgan.
Lucie Venot: En primer lugar, un gran agradecimiento a Morgan y Seb por su compromiso, sus super caballos y la organización de este torneo, que no tiene comparación dentro de la temporada de polo femenino en Suiza.
Esta es mi primera vez en Zurich, aunque mis hermanas, Elena y Pearl, ya han venido antes. Es decir que las tres hermanas Venot ya hemos visitado Zurich. Todas conocemos muy bien a Morgan, ganamos juntas el Open de France, en 2021, jugamos el Pink Polo, en Argentina, en 2022. Y esta fue mi primera vez jugado con Ann-Kathrin y Katja, lo cual fue un verdadero placer. Jugamos muy bien en equipo, abierto, rápido y casi sin fouls.
Y mi agradecimiento a los sponsors, nunca pensé que iba a recibir tantos regalos!
¿Qué jugadora te sorprendió más?
Aline: La verdad que me impresionó lo bien que jugaron todas. Los partidos fueron abiertos, rápidos, competitivos, limpios y sin faltas. Los caballos funcionaron muy bien. Lucie Venot jugó muy bien; para mí, es muy inspirador ver jugar a las chicas, como controlan la bocha, están siempre bien paradas en la cancha y como montan los caballos. La forma en que se anticipan al juego es espectacular, así que es un gran honor jugar con ellas o contra ellas.
Ursi: Quizás la que más me sorprendió es mi amiga Ursi, de Zug. Fue su primera vez en Polo Park Zurich, pero definitivamente no va a ser la última. Mejoró muchísimo su juego en los últimos años. Luego de jugar juntas de forma frecuente, fue realmente maravilloso ver como jugamos como equipo, cuidándonos las espaldas y confiando la una en la otra. Esa atmósfera familiar dentro de la cancha es lo que hace la diferencia. Pero te diría que todas las chicas jugaron muy bien, y no veo la hora de volver a jugar con todas ellas.

International Ladies Polo Cup, another successful edition of Polo Park Zurich’s remarkable ladies tournament
On Sunday July 7, Los Lobos and Zug & Friends played the championship match of the International Polo Ladies Cup, the prestigious ladies tournament hosted by Polo Park Zurich and led by the club’s heart and soul, Morgan Von Overbroek. And it was a very special edition, because the competition, one of the highligths of the season at the club, celebrated its 25th. Anniversary.
Los Lobos, with Kathrin-Ann Brandle, Katja Grausiler, Morgan Von Overbroek and Lucie Venot, were victorious over Zug and Friends, in a very competitive match. The girls enjoyed the final, and had fun in the usual friendly entourage provided by the Swiss club.
Prensa Polo had some words with the girls, including a couple of winners, Ann-Kathrin and Lucie, who left us their impressions of this unique annual experience.
Where do you usually play and how did you organise yourself to play this tournament?
Aline Haerry: I play in Polo Club Zug, which is not too far from Polo Park Zurich, and we always enjoy very much coming here to play. To me, of course, the International Ladies Cup is a highlight of the season. It was actually one of my first tournaments I’ve ever played as a beginner, and since then on, I try to come every year. Our team was fortunate to win it a couple of times.
This year it was we struggled to get organised – a dear friend broke a rib, another teammate had to pull out and the bad weather forced the postponement of some tournaments. Anyway, at the end of the day, we managed to put a good team together, composed by amateurs, and although we knew we didn’t have much chances to win, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to play this tournament. We had a lot of fun.
Ursi Bettio: I usually play at my local club, Polo Club Zug, where I have been training for the past few years. To prepare for this tournament, due the weather forcast, I mostly focused on practising penalties. We were so lucky, that we could play! We also had practice matches with other skilled players to simulate the competitive environment. In addition, I worked closely with our fantastic coach Facu, in order to develop strategies for this tournament.
Ann Kathrin Brandle: Normally I play in the polo club Bern, which is set around 15 minutes away from my home.
What did you like the most about the tournament?
Ursi: What I liked the most about the tournament was the good level of competition and the opportunity to meet and play against players from other clubs. The atmosphere was welcoming and very nice.
Aline: Aside from the great location, fields, and perfect organisation, what I loved most is seeing the shared passion of all the amazing ladies for their horses and the sport, getting together to play and enjoy. On a personal side, what I enjoyed the most was that my pony Cheta won the BPP blanked. I am very proud of that little genius, and very grateful to Facundo Guevara to have sold her to me.
Ann Kathrin: the sporting challenge and the fair games. Nice atmosphere at the club; they really created a wonderful atmosphere. The high requirements were even exceeded. I am very happy to have an efficient partner at my side who takes care of the transport. And a wonderful groom who takes care of the horses. And last but not least my husband who always supports me!
Lucie Venot: This tournament has been fantastic, in a really buena onda entourage. A memorable experience indeed!
How did you see the level of play and organisation?
Aline: The organisation by Morgan was impeccable – chapeau! Every year she manages to attract great sponsors, comes up with new ideas and the gifts we got from the sponsors are so cool! And we were able to play during a rainy weekend, which shows the excellent conditions of the grounds. And then of course to enjoy the amazingTapas lunch! Thanks to Morgan for all the dedication and passion she puts into this tournament.
Ursi: The level of play was super. I was impressed by the skill and determination of the ladies! we really had a lot of fun and didn’t have much fouls. The organisers did a fantastic job. A big thank you to Morgan.
Lucie Venot: First of all, a huge thank you to Morgan and Seb for their compromise, their super horses and the organisation of this tournament, which is unmatched within the ladies Swiss polo season.
This is my first time in Zurich, however my sisters, Elena and Pearl have already been years before. I can say the three Venot sisters have visited Zurich. We all know Morgan very well, we won the Open de France together in 2021, then played the Pink Polo in Argentina, in 2022. And this has been the first time I’ve played with Ann-Kathrin and Katja, which has been a real pleasure. We played very well as a team. The games were fast, open and with no fouls at all.
And last but not least, thanks to all the sponsors, I’ve never thought I could receive so many gifts!
Aline: I was amazed by how well everyone played. The games wer open, fast, competitive, but very fair with not many fouls – very sportswomanlike. The horses went very well on that soft ground. Lucie Venot played so well, it’s truly inspirational for me to see how the professional female players control and hit the ball, are always at the right spot and how they ride the horses. The way they anticipate and feed the game is spectacular, so it’s an honour to play with or against them.
Which player surprised you the most?
Aline: Probably the player that surprised me the most is my friend Ursi, from Zug. It was her first time playing at Polo Park Zurich, but definitely won’t be her last. She has improved her game tremendously over the past few years. After having played together frequently, it was wonderful to see how well we managed to play as a team, looking out for each other, having each other’s back, and trusting each other. The familiar atmosphere on the field really makes a difference. However, all the girls played very well and I am very much looking forward to playing with or against them again.
Ursi: I was impressed by the high level of play and professionalism and fairness of all the participants.
The Pro of the other team plays fantastic – she inspiring me to practice more and get better and better.
